Before our daughter could talk, we taught her some basic sign language to help her communicate. Words like "please," "more," "all done," and "thank you." It's incredible how quickly she caught on and especially convenient around dinner time.

"Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name" (John 20:31-32).

Throughout Jesus' ministry, he performed many signs (or miracles) to solidify our belief in him. He spoke to us in those moments, often without speaking. So, what do his signs tell us about his power and authority?

He Supplies Our Needs

When a wedding party ran out of wine, Jesus made more from some jars of water (John 2:1-12). When a large crowd needed food, Jesus multiplied a few loaves and fish to feed them (John 6:1-14).

If he has the power to take care of physical needs, he can also take care of the greatest spiritual needs. As he said, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst" (John 6:35). So, let these signs speak to you, and trust him to provide for you eternally.

He Has Power Over This World

When Jesus wanted to see his friends in the middle of the sea, he walked there — on the water (John 6:15-21)! When a violent storm raged, he silenced it with just a word (Mark 4:39).

But despite our modern scientific advances and technology, we're still incapable of setting aside the laws of nature as he did. Who else could have such authority, then the Creator of all things? Let these signs speak to you, and trust him with the power over your life.

He Controls Sickness and Death

When Jesus met a blind man, he restored his sight after rubbing clay on his eyes (John 9:1-41). When his close friend died, he called him out of the tomb and brought him back to life (John 11:1-46).

When we're sick, we go to the doctor. But the most excellent physician is Jesus! He showed his power over physical illness and death, and he also has control over spiritual disease and the ability to raise us up on the last day (John 6:40). So, let these signs speak to you and trust him to heal and to raise you.

Jesus said, "... the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me" (John 5:36). What do his signs say to you? And are they enough to convince you of his love for you and his authority over your life?
